Project STAY is a multi-disciplinary team that consists of behavior analysts, a licensed clinical social worker, a certified regular and special education teacher, and a data collector.

Project STAY originated as a special education grant in 1995 to provide technical assistance to schools and families in Northeast Kansas. During this time, Project STAY field-tested a problem-solving model to be used with children exhibiting challenging behaviors. This problem-solving model includes functional behavioral assessment, family and school communication, academic curriculum assessment and development, learning strategies, and system analysis.

In 1998 the project was restructured. Currently, Project STAY is funded through a consortium of thirteen school districts and cooperatives in Northeast and Central Kansas, in addition to a grant for 2006-2007 from the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). Project STAY now provides direct, hands-on consultation to the thirteen school districts and coops in our consortium. The KSDE grant also provides funding for family and school team trainings across the state. The State Department has also funded Project STAY to provide general consultation via the internet throughout the state of Kansas.
